What's cookin?

Josh's mom shared with me another recipe for "Sweedish" meatballs. I served them up for our housewarming party and they were pretty tasty!

Here is the recipe.  They are delicious, sweet & sour meatballs.

Sweedish Meatballs
1 12oz jar Heinz chile sauce
1 10oz jar Welch’s grape jelly
1 lb hamburger
1 slice white bread
Splash of milk (I forgot to add this and they turned out ok)

Put the hamburger in a bowl and crumble the bread slice as small as possible into the hamburger.  Splash milk into the mix, and mix with hands.  Form into meatballs.

In a large skillet, melt the grape jelly and then stir in the chile sauce.

When it is well blended, put in the meatballs.

Simmer covered 15 minutes, then turn them over and simmer 15 more minutes.  Drain the fat that rises to the top of the sauce off.

We serve these over flat noodles with the sauce.

Total cost of this meal including a beer & a glass of wine:  This is tricky because we didn't serve it as a meal.  But would have been less than $10.
Gross factor: Mushing the meat up with your hands, not bad though if you do this while drinking a glass of wine.
Bonus:   You can prepare and cook the meat in advance!
Tip: Once refrigerated, the fat rises to the top and is quite easy to remove.

I make this one in my crock pot too. Do the exact same thing but let it cook on low all day. Delicious dinner when you get home from work :)

LOVE IT! Love anything that is ready when I get home from work... So, you just dump in the jelly and the chili sauce or do you mix it all together first?

This looks awesome. We just usually use frozen meatballs and dump them in the crock pot with the grape jelly and chili sauce. They are best usually after about 3 hours.
