the many faces of lilah

Here are some of the photos I have taken of Lilah, my youngest cousin, in 2009.  These were taken during a weekend visit to the City of Angels, where fun abounds and smiles are plentiful.  We were celebrating her older sister, Ella's, 8th birthday. There is something about a captive subject who will let you take photo after photo of them without reservation, that is so refreshing and forgiving.  What an entertaining and expressive little one...

Fast forward two years to 2011 when our family of females gathered in the White Mountains of Arizona to celebrate Lilah's other older sister's, Tessa's, 8th birthday.  Skiing and eating converged in to a weekend of strenuous vigor and feminine power.  Here again, unapologetic and unabashed is Lilah and her many faces.

Thank you Lilah for endless hours of photographic iteration.

Adventures with Lexi

Yesterday I had the pleasure of watching my insanely entertaining and immensely adorable niece Lexi for the morning.  I was prepared to captivate the terrific, two-year old this time.  The last time I watched her, it was at night so we just watched a movie and went to bed.

Yesterday, I got to spend some quality time with my favorite Smith toddler.  I had coloring books to color, magnets to paint and brownies to bake.  After 45 minutes, we had already completed the first two tasks and I was on my second cup of coffee.  Wow, did I underestimate how quickly we'd blow through those projects!  So, we watched Beauty and the Beast.

Then, we took a walk to the grassy area near our house.  The whole time Lexi was on her play phone with a friend telling them "what was goin' on".  At least when I asked her who she was talking to that's what she said.  :)  Then I got to listen to a narrative of our walk:  "Just goin' on a walk with Aunt Tory..."  "Lookin' at some birds."  "Tryin' to find da nest..."  Then, in the middle of the grassy wash, we found a pine cone.  I told her what a pine cone was and then looked around for a pine tree to point out, but strangely enough, there weren't any!  Who knows where our mysterious pine cone came from.  But we scooped it up and brought it home to apply shiny-ness and make an ornament.

We ended up coloring more and eating lunch and did not make brownies.

Painting magnets.

Oh yeah, I caved and let her have this before 9 a.m.! (sorry Jen!)

We did a lot of "looking" for Peanut.  We weren't chasing him though.  We were good! :)

"Dare he is!!!"

Sophi Turns One

Happy birthday to my youngest, favorite niece, Sophia!

She turned one this past Thursday, November 11th.  What a lucky little girl, having an 11/11 birthday!  We celebrated her first 365 days with our family.  Abbi and Jeff had us all over for hot dogs and cheese burgers.  Abbi (as always) made the cutest cake with matching cupcakes. The Ducky theme for "Soapi's" party was simply adorable.

I will leave you with pictures:

Halloween 2010!

Josh and I hosted a fun, Halloween party last Saturday!  It's true, I wanted a reason to use my wedding presents and was so entertained with the idea of entertaining.

The menu was: mac & cheese bites, mini pigs-in-a-blanket, sweet-ish meatball, chex mix, chips and guac, caramel apples and jell-o "dirt" cups.  My parents came over early and helped us get things set up.  My mom and I carved pumpkins.  There were so many creative costumes!  Part of the fun was seeing what everyone dressed up as...  We had a bat pinata for the little kids (they were probably still too little for it, but it was fun) and hung out around the fire pit late into the evening.

As always, here are some photos...
